random, everyday thoughts #1

I'm up in the mountains (yodeling and what not) for the weekend. Three cheers for having the strength to part with  my laptop (hip-hip-HOORAY!)  But I left my journal at home (hip-hip-Aw, man) Not much has happened yet for me to post about on here, but I am itching to write something. So, I thought it might be fun to post a few random, everyday thoughts I've recorded in the recent past ("recent past", is that an oxymoron?). I'm a little scared to share my thoughts like this as I don't often do, but I suppose it's good to be myself every now and then. For future reference, I genuinely appreciate your concern about my sanity!

 - Was walking behind a couple in Greenwich today; the man was squeezing the girl's butt, more like her crack actually, as they walked. It was odd looking. But then I thought, "What I wouldn't give to have a guy brave enough to be publicly squeezing my butt right now"

- I bought a book at this store called McNaly Jackson, and then went to Barnes & Nobles to read it. I feel a little like a traitor.

- I'd rather get a lotto ticket that said "Loser" than one that said "Not a winner". That's just painful. I mean, if someone calls me a loser, it's like "No I'm not!" If someone says I'm not a winner, then, what am I?

- Sometimes I'm really proud of my poops, I almost want to show someone. Like the child that I am.

- Why are the curtains that separate first class and coach seats see-through? What is that all about? To make us all jealous?
"Betcha wish you hadn't skipped out on allllllll this." *makes obscene gestures to the lobster dish... then slaps it*
Teases. What is this, high school?  Real mature, guys. You can keep your fancy meals and hot towels.

- I honestly think one of my happiest moments is when I dressed up as an elephant for Halloween my senior year, even if everyone did think I looked more like a Koala. Mom suggested I try something a little sexier at 17 years old. But I had a better idea...
(These are the only pictures I'll be posting in this entry, because I feel it is very relephant!)

The actual inspiration for my costume! One of my favorite celebrity appearances/skits on Sesame Street!
Aaaaaaand...

Ta-da! Behold: The very first Koalaphant is born! Still not nearly as cute as Natalie or Elmo though.

- I could never have a boyfriend with a peanut-allergy. Is it bad that peanut-butter would stand in the way of true love? I should make a video about two people-- one with a peanut allergy and one with an addiction--and their deadly, unrequited love.

- I should make a video of myself acting like a cat just to prove how good cats have it. Cats have it really good.

-I should make a video of me and a friend playing JENGA to the Django: Unchained  theme song.
"JENGAAAA!!!"
And then I whip the JENGA blocks!
"Now you've lost her forever, JENGA..."
*WHAPSH!*

- That's the third time my skirt has risen up in the back, leaving me walking around for the world to see my underwear for ten blocks until some kind stranger tells me about it. (Sidenote: why is it always when I'm wearing the white underwear with the big red spots? I thought that only happened in cartoons?)

- I mean, how bad could jumping out
of a moving car actually be...?

Happy Saturday!

wish-list wednesday! #1

(psst! if you're here to see the winner of the vintage-card giveaway, scroll to the bottom)

Hey guys! Hope everyone's enjoying their week so far! Lately it has been so hot out up in this grill, I'm thinking of writing a short auto-biography of my summer called "Too Hot for Pants". Or maybe an action-packed feature film!

"TOO HOT FOR PANTS",
starring Melissa McCarthy and Morgan Freeman...
coming to an air-conditioned theater near you.

And be on the lookout for the sequel: "2 HOT FOR PANTS AGAIN".

While I don't have my own apartment or anything (yet), one can only dream of all the pretty things that will someday occupy the walls, floors, closets, and any other piece of bare mass taking up the most likely very small amount of space. Thanks to Pinterest and site browsing, I've compiled a "Wish-List" of things (because of all things, things happen to be my favorite of things) that I think are either positively:
a) darling
b) interesting
c) reminiscent of what it would be like to be a space princess (I'll try and explain this better someday, but basically I dig anything that has to do with stars, the moon, planets, and outerspace)
or d) kind of kooky and fun!
A lot of blogs do it, but I give all my thanks to The Dainty Squid 's "Friday Favorites" posts for the idea! The Dainty Squid totally rocks, check her out if you get the chance!

Representing the first edition of "Too Hot for Pants", this dress
would be perfect for a good summer frolic! And you best believe I'd take pictures with a red rose dangling from my mouth. *cue castanets*

How great would this birdie bell jar be for displaying my
burnt baked goods for everyone to know to stay away from?

Mark my words, I will have a Dream Lites Pet

and I will be as happy as these children, gosh darnit!

Ooh! I can really imagine these "Me - The Dog - & You" pillow cases for when I'm older, settled down and in love!
Hm, I wonder who would fill the "you" space?

Not only are they a funky pair o' kicks, but I think it would
be funny to take my 5'1 self to the doctor in these:
"5'7, yes!"
"Okay, and with your shoes removed please."
"Listen, Doc, how about we just settle for 5'3 and call it a day, huh?"

Flipper-ing out over Modcloth's retro swimwear! NO WAY GET OUT, are those swans?! The late Esther Williams would be so proud! Rest in peace, aquagirl.

 SWAN DIVE, anyone?

So, while I definitely wouldn't be able to pull off the "sex-kitten" look this model appears to be having a lot of success with, I do think this shirt would make the cutest jammies!

I love these Tea for Two tea-cups! Another great find,
for when I have a loving dog in my life.
(I promise I'm not actually this pessimistic! I'm just being cheeky.
Trust me, I eat chocolate more bitter than my feelings towards my love life. I'm actually quite the romantic if you can believe it!)
My latest journal is almost full! In honor of the blog,
I could see this making a fine replacement journal,
 yes, a fine one indeed!
I just can't get over anything that has flowers.
This iPhone case is so pretty!

While I could get off into a whole tangent about how much I'd like for overalls to make a comeback and be more socially accepted in the recognition of today's fashion, I just have to say I think this dress would make any day an overall success!

Happy Wednesday!

And the winner of the vintage post-card giveaway is... Craig!
Send me your address by e-mail or Facebook and I'll get this shipped right off to ya

Craig is actually a friend of mine who just got hired as the new Buffalo Sabres social media manager! Congratulations again, Craig! This can be your going away present!

I'm sorry for those who didn't win, but I'll be doing more giveaways in the future. : )

giveaway: vintage post-card

So the weather people on TV are saying  that its going to be rainy here in New York all week (noooooo!).  I mean, I can get down with a good thunderstorm, but preferably at night when I'm cozied up watching a movie. The forecast has been wrong before so I hope they're just messing with us or something. Ohhhh, you guuuuys, you got us again!

Yesterday was filled with all kinds of things! Early afternoon I went to Lips for Broadway Brunch with my cousin, Brianne.
I read a review that said this place looked like "Ken and Barbie's dream house on acid."
Pretty much, yeah.

She was a lovely performer, and just a doll!

Since we were in the area we stopped by Dylan's candy bar. Oh, the temptation...! However, after almost losing it when I saw peanut-butter popcorn, I held my composure and searched for Red Vines to buy my friend Allison for her birthday dinner that night. Seriously though, how magical does this place look!

I found the Red Vines! Kimberly did a great job wrapping it so pretty.

I had some time in between so I walked around the East Village and came upon this thrift store! I highly recommend going if you're in the area. They were having a 50% off deal on clothing that day, so everything was super cheap. Plus, the music they play is awesome. I heard everything from The Shins, to Joan Jett, to 40's swing music, to the Dark Wing Duck theme song... I could've stayed there forever! I also found out that a lot of the benefits go to the Diabetes Research Institute. Hmmm, even more reason to shop... If you aren't in New York, they have an online store that you can checkout here, and a Tumblr to keep tabs on all the latest new (old) items!

Wait, is that me? That can't be right...
Ah, that's more like it.
I picked up a couple articles of clothing. Only cost me $5!
I also got a vintage post-card...(that can be yours! Scroll to bottom for details)
... And a few old photographs of people and their babies. Maybe it's kind of weird to have old photos of people, but I feel like you never see photos like this anymore. I think I'm going to collect old pictures and put them in a book for people to look through one day.
The day ended with meeting my friend Allison and her boyfriend Kyle at Quintessence for her birthday/reunion dinner (we hadn't seen each other in 3 years!) But luckily she is moving here to attend NYU for film school in the fall! Yipeeee! I should have taken pictures of all the food, but we just got so caught up in conversation and, well, eating the food. I can tell you it consisted of Vegan ravioli, vegan pizza, vegan hamburgers, butternut squash soup with squash coconut-bread, vegan tiramisu, and vegan vanilla and chocolate milkshakes. We were all very, very happy afterwards. Allison loved the red vines, and looked stunning sporting the ribbons!
Happy 20th, Alli-cat! Can't wait to see what you do next when we are NYC neighbors!

And...

I'm giving away this vintage post-card to one lucky winner! If you want, I'll even write you a personalized note!

How to Enter: Just comment below! One random winner will be chosen on Wednesday, June 26th.

Happy Monday!

just another day: shake shack!

Since I am covering a double on this beautiful summer day at the restaurant where I work, here are some pictures of the lovely evening I had yesterday. Happy Saturday!
shake shack
Friday, June 21, 2013 marked the Summer Solstice: the longest day of the year! And a glorious one at that-- the weather was a perfectly breezy 77ยบ. I met up with Dillon and Hannah, a couple of high school friends I was in CTV with who are doing internships here in the city for the summer.

Look at how cute Hannah is!
Even with my school being right in the Flat Iron District, I'd never been to the original Shake Shack, nor any Shake Shack for that matter in the past two years I've lived here. The original stand is in Madison Square Park, and the line is always long.
 Always.
Thank goodness Dillon got in line right away! I got the original Shack Burger with no cheese. It was heavenly, to say the least.

"Well shaaake shack is a little old place where... weeeeeee can eat-some-bur-gerrrrrs!"
A coupla satisfied customers!
I was jonesin' for some kind of treat after having a sip of Dillon's chocolate shake, so as a healthy alternative I went to Terri, one of my favorite vegan places on W23rd street.
Mainly for their Green Power smoothies.
We saw this sweet model Ford on the way. Come to mama...!
Speaking of models...
There was a guy playing some music across from the park and these kids were dancing their little hearts out to it! It looked like fun, so I joined and wondered if maybe they would accept me as one of them, and maybe even show me some moves...?
IT'S WORKING! IT'S WORKING!
Eventually I knew it was time for me to part from my new crew. Dillon, Hannah and I moved onward to the Whole Foods in Union Square where we found some neat Ostrich eggs.
Practicing my mothering skills by keeping it warm.
Since I don't have a Whole Foods that close to where I live in Brooklyn, I used the opportunity to pick up a few goodies for the week.

Notice the half eaten Key-Lime Pie Lara Bar. The train ride home is a long, and tempting one.
Winding down for a big day ahead with Lemon Ginger Green Tea.
"Your intuition is your best friend."
Well... Sometimes, Tea Tag. Sometimes.
